Aniya Blackmon crosses 1,000-point threshold for Golda Meir
With a little more than 11 minutes remaining in the first half of Golda Meir’s matchup against Juneau on Tuesday, Jan. 14, guard Aniya Blackmon nailed a three-pointer from the wing to extend the Owls’ lead to 16 and climb over the 1,000-point mark for her career.
Blackmon ultimately finished with 27 points – including 7-16 shooting from deep – and five assists and four steals as Golda Meir cruised to its 10th win of the season. For the year, she is averaging a team-high 22.8 points per game. She is the first girls basketball player in school history to score 1,000 points for her career.
Only a junior, Blackmon is already a two-time first-team all-conference honoree in the MCC Gold Division, and still has nearly a season and a half to add to her scoring mark.
Blackmon, alongside fellow junior Amirah Taylor (19.7 points per game), has Golda Meir positioned for a strong finish in the Milwaukee City Conference. After the win over Juneau, Golda Meir sits atop the MCC Gold Division at 8-0, with home wins over Rufus King and MSL, the two teams nipping at the Owls’ heels in the standings. The stretch run of MCC play will bring two key return matchups, as Golda Meir hits the road to play the Hawks on Wednesday, Jan. 22 and the Generals on Friday, Feb. 14.
