Jakari Smith (Bradley Tech High School) and Javante Edwards (Carmen Northwest High School) were named the Milwaukee City Conference Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Dec. 1-7.

Edwards, a Canisius University signee, powered Carmen Northwest to three narrow wins last week (76-74 at Golda Meir, 69-65 vs. St. Thomas More, and 81-79 at Racine St. Catherine’s). For the week, Edwards posted 29.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game. For the season, Edwards is averaging 34.0 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 4.0 assists in the Eagles’ five contests, including a high-water mark of 54 points on 14-16 shooting in a 102-99 defeat at Menomonee Falls on Nov. 30.

A trip to Sheboygan North (Tuesday, Dec. 10, 7 p.m.) is next on the agenda for Carmen Northwest.

Smith and the Trojans started the season strong last week, chalking up double-digit road wins at Janesville Parker and North Division. Smith posted a double-double in both contests, averaging 23.0 points, 17.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists.

Bradley Tech will welcome Cudahy on Tuesday, Dec. 10 (7 p.m.) for its home opener, before hitting the road again for two more non-conference games at Brookfield East (Thursday, Dec. 12, 7:30 p.m.) and St. John’s Northwestern Academies (Saturday, Dec. 14, 3 p.m.).
