Former Rufus King Swimmer Competes in Paris
Ziyad Saleem, Rufus King class of 2021, competed at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris! Saleem, who holds dual citizenship with the United States and Sudan, swam for Sudan in the 200M backstroke. He qualified for the 2024 Summer Games after winning gold in the 200M backstroke in the African Championships.
In Paris, Saleem finished fifth in Heat 1 of the 200M, coming up short of advancing to the semifinals (the top 16 times advance to the semis).
He is a member of the Cal Bears’ swim team, which captured the men’s national championship during Saleem’s freshman and sophomore seasons. At Rufus King, Saleem was the WIAA Division 1 state champion in the 100-yard backstroke.
