Nick Vance and Arvell Lockhart

Riverside's Vance & Bradley Tech's Lockhart Named MCC Student-Athletes of the Week (Jan. 20)

Nick Vance (Riverside Univ. High School) and Arvell Lockhart (Bradley Tech High School) were named the Milwaukee City Conference Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Jan. 12-18.

Riverside hosted the annual Nowicki Sprints on Saturday, Jan. 18, where Vance won both the 50-yard breaststroke and 100-yard breaststroke events. He also finished second in the medley relay and third in the 200-yard freestyle relay, helping Riverside to a second-place finish among the six participating teams.

Bradley Tech entered the week on a two-game losing streak, but bounced back with two big wins, including a non-conference win over a St. Paul Central (MN) team that was 9-3 entering its game against the Trojans. Lockhart powered Bradley Tech last week with two standout offensive performances as he set his career high in points scored (24) on Tuesday at Marshall, which he promptly shattered on Friday at home against St. Paul Central (28). For the week, he averaged 26.0 points on a sterling 64.5/64.2/100.0 percent shooting slash line, and added 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 5.0 steals per game in the two victories. Lockhart has now lifted his scoring mark to 13.6 points per game on the year.

A critical matchup awaits for Bradley Tech, as the Trojans host the first-place Juneau Pioneers on Tuesday, Jan. 21. Between Bradley Tech’s Lockhart, Rashad Fenner (17.6 points per game), and Jakari Smith (17.5 points per game) and Juneau’s Dooney Johnson (22.2 points per game), Takis Tyler (16.7 points per game), and Jaden Hardiman (11.5 points per game), Tuesday’s contest could feature six all-conference players from the MCC Gold Division.
